The Nursery welcomes children at age 2 and the Pre-Primary programme welcomes children aged 3 to 6

In France, schooling is compulsory from the age of 3. The three or four years of kindergarten cover a complete educational cycle in four sections:

  • Very small section (TPS), from the age of 2 years old
  • Small section (PS), from 3 years old
  • Medium section (MS), from 4 years old
  • Grande section (GS), from 5 years old

During these four years, children develop fundamental skills, learn the basics of language and discover the world of writing.

These four years are organized around five key areas:

  1. Mobilising language in all its dimensions: the acquisition of a rich oral language, organised and understandable to others
  2. Acting, expressing oneself, understanding through physical activity
  3. Acting, expressing oneself, understanding through artistic activities
  4. Building the first tools to structure one’s thinking
  5. Exploring the world

Through games, communication and the search for autonomy, our youngest students also become familiar with a bilingual environment while developing their ability to live in a group.  30% of school time is devoted to the teaching of English by certified teachers. They follow the Cambridge English programme.

Non-French speaking children are accepted in TPS, PS and MS.  From GS, only children who already speak French can join the Lycée Français du Cap.  Pupils arriving from another French school, from France or from the AEFE network, are not tested upon arrival at the Lycée Français du Cap. However, students arriving from another school system must take entrance tests so that they can be assigned to the class that best corresponds to their level of French.

Please also note that, for registration in the small section, your children must be potty trained, which means no longer wearing diapers and be almost autonomous to go to the bathroom.
