A Few Figures

Class size

The school population of the French School of Cape Town now stands at 467 students in total for the first time. This remarkable growth was attributed to the move of the primary school to the Sea Point campus, as well as the increased awareness within Cape Town of the educational ethos of the school, its dual-medium system (French-English), its quality of teaching and the appeal of its values rooted in open-mindedness and diversity.

Our learners

The school offers a truly international environment where students of all nationalities engage with each other and form friendships in a spirit of openness and tolerance. Although the French language and culture are paramount, we have strong links to our host, South Africa. As of September 2017, our families comprise French (51,9 %), South African/French (18 %), South African (19,6%) and other nationalities (28,4%).

Our educators

The teaching team brings together educators from different backgrounds: French certified teachers, most of whom already have a solid experience of teaching abroad, Francophone teachers, from various parts of Africa, and finally, South Africans teachers who contribute to the French School curriculum in a valuable way through language, as well as culture.

With a ratio of 1 teacher to 13 students in the primary school (including pre-primary) plus 11 pre-primary assistants the school can pay real attention to every student. Specific courses are often offered for some students to attend to their special needs, such as those resulting from expatriation.

Our school staff is extensive, covering everything your children could possibly need. It comprises of our Headmistress and our team of teachers. They are supported by the educational and administrative divisions. These auxiliary divisions can be further broken down into our Deputy Headmaster; Financial Director; Head of IT; Assistants to the Headmistress; Guidance counsellor;  Kindergarten assistants; Superintendents; Security guards and more. A cosmopolitan and diverse group, all joining forces, enabling us to proudly offer our students a safe, inspiring and enjoyable environment on both our campuses.

Results

The team is proud to see the effectiveness of its teaching consistently reflected in high scores, in the French Baccalaureate but also at the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB) as well as the Cambridge Certificate of English as a foreign language.
